After studying in Florence, he moved to London in the 1960s, inspired by Mary Quant to revolutionize hosiery design with bold patterns and avant-garde aesthetics. In 1970, he founded Emilio Cavallini, combining fashion and artistic research. Since 2010, Cavallini has focused entirely on art, creating works influenced by optical, kinetic, and generative art movements. He lives and works in San Miniato, Italy.
