MUTE MOJOS is a visual exploration of playful characters inspired by totems, blending African cultural references with contemporary expressionism. Drawing from carved Tikis, abstract human forms, and face masks, the series reimagines traditional symbols into stylized, abstract portraits rooted in Nigerian daily life. Each piece functions as a mask, symbolizing transformation and connection to a higher source, echoing African traditions where masks house spirits and allow the wearer to embody their essence. The MOJOS series reinterprets portraiture by juxtaposing stylized Tiki-inspired figures with conventional family portraits, while reflecting on African beauty standards through exaggerated forms, hairstyles, and accessories.

(b. 1997, Lagos) Michael Irabor is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans visual arts, illustration, and textiles. With degrees from the University of Lagos, IED Rome, and Accademia Costume e Moda, he blends culture, personal narratives, and bold graphical abstraction to create a distinctive style that transcends traditional boundaries.
