Massimiliano Ionta — artist, producer, and musician — has worked for over 20 years in the fields of sound and art. In 2001, he founded “Start-Studios,” Italy’s first digital recording studio and a factory for artistic and musical production, active for more than two decades and collaborating with major figures of Italian music.

As a composer of soundtracks, in 2010 he was responsible for the permanent archaeological and museum installations by Piero Angela and Paco Lanciano. In 2017, in line with the concept of the dematerialization of the human being into digital consciousness, he transformed himself into the living avatar of the artist “The Astronut,” debuting in the conceptual art scene and continuing to explore the new frontiers of digital media.

He exhibited Kimono Tales at the Carrousel du Louvre during Fotofever Paris, was a finalist for the Fondazione Amedeo Modigliani Prize, and won the RAW Meet Miami New Media Festival with his video sound-art piece Singularity .

The work of The Astronut focuses primarily on creating immersive, perceptual, and interactive experiences through spatial audio and 3D design, immersive video, NFTs, and metaverse projects in Virtual and Augmented Reality. His installations include the one presented at the Triennale di Milano featuring spatialized sound in augmented reality, and his most recent work shown at MIA Photo Fair, which combines a sonic metaverse with audience interaction.
